The different civil society organizations in the village have always engaged a lot of their members as volunteers. So has the municipality. And the new Koura Youth Council is a more recent way Bishmizzinis are volunteering, mostly for projects that bring youth from the participating villages together. In addition to these groups, we encourage people of the village to organize their own volunteer initiatives to contribute to the community.

We plan for this section, in time, to include many different opportunities for Bishmizzinis to volunteer, but for now we are only listing volunteer opportunities related to this website. Much of this work can be done on your own time and from anywhere in the world.

NOTE: True volunteering is doing something good for society, of your own free will, and without financial compensation. For those who need financial compensation, please let us know. You will not be acknowledged as a volunteer, but your contributions will still be very important to our website.

We need people to:

1. Type up handwritten texts into Arabic that are sent to the volunteer online. (Need knowledge of Arabic, ability to type in Arabic and send the text back online).
2. Scan and prepare pictures to go onto the website (knowledge of Adobe Photoshop or a similar program).
3. Provide graphic design support for the website.
4. Interview key people in Bishmizzine and the Bishmizzine diaspora (older people to ask about their memories in the village or emigrating abroad, members of the municipal council, the two mukhtars, the principal of the school, students in the village, etc.) and then write a 1-2 page report about the one that was interviewed in Arabic or English (or both) to put on the website. A picture or pictures should be included.
5. Do research on different families, streets, historical events, and places and write up a report to go onto the website.
6. Help with the genealogy of the village – your own family to begin with and then others in Lebanon and abroad.
7. Gather information about news and events, including notices of services provided by the municipality.
8. Suggest some other contribution you can make to the website that reflect your own interests and abilities.

Internships > Leadership Roles

We have a couple of BIG jobs we need done that require a serious long-term commitment. Most notably, we need at least two interns to help with the website and two interns to help with the genealogy with the hope that they could assume the leadership in these projects at some future date.
